Last week we got a call from the owner of a restaurant in Garner, North Carolina. The walk in freezer wasn’t cooling adequately – it was only pulling down to 20 degrees F. Chris went out to take a look and quickly diagnosed the issue as worn valves on the semi-hermetic compressor.
Where a less experienced technician might have replaced the compressor, costing thousands of dollars Chris knew that for a couple hundred bucks he could replace the valve plate. Further, when checking the operation of the system they found that the dual pressure switch was bad, it was causing the compressor to run constantly – definitely contributing to the wear that caused the valve plate to fail. With the compressor up and running and the freezer cooling properly, Chris ordered the pressure switch and came back the next day to install it.
